Missing: Elnora Charles

30 11 2007

This Thanksgiving is a tough one for a Tucson family whose loved one disappeared exactly one week ago.

Elnora Charles, known as Nora to those who love her, was last seen by family members at her home around five o’clock last Thursday night.

About two hours later, one of her sons spotted her car near Fort Lowell Road and First Avenue, but didn’t see who was driving it.

Early the next morning, the family reported her missing.

Saturday night, police found her car on Mount Lemmon, but no one was inside. They also found her shoes, but still no sign of Nora.

Her family is now desperate to find her.

“You know what? Truthfully, when my phone rings, I don’t even want to answer it because I don’t want to hear bad news,” said Sterling Pulliam.

Pulliam has been struggling with his mother’s disappearance since he heard the news late last week.

“I’m just an empty hole right now. I’m just empty. I have no feelings,” he said.

No feelings on Thanksgiving for two of Nora Charles’ grandchildren, either.

“It’s Thanksgiving, and here we are. We don’t have anyone. Our grandmother; our mother, to celebrate with. I don’t think any of us are cooking. We’re just not in the spirit.”

Kiamani Martin says her grandmother has always been there for her, especially when she went into labor.

“When I was in labor, I was on her couch. I said, ‘grandma if I go into labor you have to take me to the hospital’ and she said, ‘I don’t know how to get to Northwest Hospital, baby.’ ” Martin said with a laugh as tears stream down her face.

Nora Charles’ disappearance has been especially hard for 16 year old Rashed Pulliam.

“She’s like more than a grandma to me. She’s like my mom,” he said.

“I just want my grandma back, you know? It’s like a piece of my heart got ripped out,” he added.

Nora Charles has a scar on her right eye and right cheek.

She was last seen wearing a red and black “mumu” dress.

The body found was NOT Lizzie Mae Collier-Sweet

30 11 2007

The above picture is of the unidentified victim.

Almost a year after her disappearance, the futile search for Lizzie Mae Collier-Sweet continues with confirmation Wednesday that a body pulled from Lake Michigan isn’t the missing woman.

“It was our most exciting find in months, but it’s not her,” said Brownstown Township Detective Lt. Robert Grant. “It’s almost a year and nobody has seen or heard from her since. It’s as though she left the face of the Earth that day.”

The badly decomposed body found floating a mile off South Haven in May only recently was confirmed through DNA research to have been a black woman, age 35-50. Although the age range and race match, Collier-Sweet was at least 5 feet 10 inches tall.

The unidentified body is just 5 feet 2 inches and had a full set of false teeth. Collier-Sweet had dentures only for her upper teeth.

“We sent out a new notice about our case because we hadn’t gotten any tips on her identity,” said Van Buren County Detective Gabrielle Rought. “Brownstown contacted us, but there were some immediate differences.”

Collier-Sweet’s husband, Roger Sweet, is a suspect in the Jan. 8 disappearance after arson destroyed their home.

The investigation led authorities to charge him with child pornography and criminal sexual contact involving a mentally impaired teen girl and the murder of his first wife.

Originally ruled an accidental slip and fall, Marlene Francis Sweet’s 1990 death in Farmington Hills was reclassified as a homicide.

Ex-Boyfriend Questioned On Missing JSU Student

A man accused of hitting a Jackson State University student in October is being questioned in connection with her disappearance.

Latasha Norman’s ex-boyfriend, Stanley Cole, was arraigned Thursday morning in Pearl on domestic violence charges. Jackson police then detained him for questioning in connection with Norman’s disappearance.

Norman, a 20-year-old accounting student, was last seen Nov. 13 in one of her classes. Her car was left on the campus, but she never returned to her dormitory room when the afternoon class ended.

Norman’s friends set up a group on popular social networking site Facebook to help find the junior accounting student, and friends and family have posted fliers with her picture.

Family members said last week they were confident that she’s still alive.

“We know in our heart that God is going to bring Tasha home to us. We know he is already working it out,” Norman’s mother, Patricia Bolden, said.
